Welcome to 2nd Portchester Scout Group. We were registered as a charity in 1959. As a long established and dynamic group, we run Beavers, Cubs and Scouts sections.
We are part Denewulf District of East Hampshire Scouts and have links with St Mary’s Church in Portchester.
The Scout Association offers everyday adventure and activity to almost 500,000 young people in the UK. It's the largest co-educational youth organisation in the world, with over 28 million members in 216 countries and territories.
Scouting is organised through The Scout Association and has a clear purpose: To help young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as Members of their local, national and international communities.
2nd Portchester Scout Group is working to achieve this with the voluntary help of Leaders and Parents with the support of the Group Executive Committee. Scouting is available to both boys and girls and is divided into several main sections, for more details on any of them please click on the links on the left.
Chief Scout Dwayne Fields
An explorer, adventurer and TV presenter, Dwayne’s been seen in BAFTA nominated Channel 5 series Race to the Pole, on BBC Springwatch, Countryfile, National Geographic and Disney+.
Among his many achievements, Dwayne was the first Black Briton to reach the North Pole. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, was awarded the Freedom of the City of London, and is the founder the #WeTwo Foundation giving opportunities to young people from inner city backgrounds.
A Cub Scout in north London as a child, Dwayne was a highly engaged Scout Ambassador for seven years before becoming Chief Scout in September 2024. He’s supported hundreds of Scout events - locally, nationally and internationally, from County Camps to the 25th World Scout Jamboree in Korea.
Dwayne is a constant champion for young people and Scouts, and is a great friend of our movement.
Dwayne says: ‘I hope my story will encourage others to join our movement. My volunteer leaders believed in me as a young person and taught me to believe in myself. They showed me I could do anything I put my mind to, and others would help me along the way.
'Now I want a new generation to learn the skills, friendship and belonging I felt when I needed them most. I want to show that the outdoors is a place for all of us to be at our best, that Scouts is truly open to all.’
